OUTSIDE THE BOX: Make a Soundtrack
Listen to this, at least once without watching. Think about it like background music, or a soundtrack, for a movie or video game. Then.....write a short description of the scene you imagine ... o, and the scene is related, somehow, to the ancient civ you are studying.

I imagine spartan boys training in the sunlight, thinking of the future and there dads in wars. Then I picture them fighting in a battle against the persians?
ReplyDeleteI imagined a bunch of gods dancing and having a great time up in the sky. All the humans are looking up at them and get excited and start to dance and have a GREAT time dancing!

ReplyDeleteI imaagine all of the Romans at war in the punic wars. Then all of a sudden they just stop in the middle of the war and start dancing and having fun.
ReplyDeleteI picture a mummy that is looking down on Egypt and thinking thatit was odd the way he/she did things before they died. It's a really weird connection!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I picture Indian farmers working out there, (India is really hot!) but they don't complain, because the crop grows, and they get food. Then, all the village people start to dance!:)

ReplyDeleteWell, it's a little stange, but I imagine many gladiators inside a callisium dancing to the song while everyone elso kinda just watches. They are all amazed and laughing histaricly inside! :) tee, hee!
ReplyDeleteI imagine Romans just minding there own business when Julius Caesar and his legion march in singing this song. As to how they new this song way way way back then....I don't know. :)
ReplyDeleteI think of family slaves (in Ancient Greece) working and they start complaining about EVERYTHING. They then stop and realize that the complaints are very silly. When they look down they realize they are dancing happily to music.
ReplyDeleteI imagine I am at the Parthanon with tons of music. The main leader is singing leaning around the people, just like they do in Disney movies. As they talk about the rain, I can see Athena above the Parthenon, enjoying being worshiped. I also see Zeus, not far from Athena, making plans for the rain.
ReplyDeleteI imagine a Roman slave that works for a singer singing while at work. The master hears the music and creates a piece just like the one the slave was singing. Emperor Nero hated the music so the singer got excuted.
ReplyDeleteThis song reminded me of the movie Monsters inc. because of the raspy and joyous tunes. This can relate to Ancient India through how the people work hard to impress their gods, sort of how the monsters work hard to be on top of the scream boards!!!! It's a funny way of looking at it!!! =)

ReplyDeleteWhile listening to the music, I think of different kinds of people (slaves, artisans, women getting water, temporary store owners, etc.)in the agora of Athens. In the picture I get, everyone is very happy

Deletenot to be mean Niel, but that is not a good way to get someone to not look at the time. but to be honest... when you said don't look at the time and i looked at the clock in the bottom right corner not the time you posted. LOL! :)
DeleteI amagine all the people of Greece hosting a big party after Alexander the Great conquered Persia. I amagine the sax player as being the DJ or the singer because of his little solo at the end.

ReplyDeleteI saw two people dancing in the Roman Forum, the kind of dancing in the picture next to the Count Basie Poem. I also saw gladiators fighing lions in the Colosseum, and a race in the Circus Maximus.
ReplyDeleteI imagine the Greek gods singing this, while simultaneously inflicting horrible disasters on the Greeks. I'm sure there's a great reason behind that being the first thing in my head.
