Final Thoughts on the Year

From 2011/12 year end
Unbelievably the Manchester experience is almost at an end for the year. Share a thought or two below.  You have to admit...you pretty fabulous classmates. also, you worked pretty hard AND you had opportunities to "play hard" on study trips or dancing in the classroom.

If you would rather use your own blog, refer us to it.  Many pictures from the year are available through a link on "homework". Maybe you would prefer to do something more creative there after writing something below.

I can't believe how fast it all went. We had lots of "firsts" this year, but what wasn't new about this year's 14ers: you are kind to one another and you were definitely unique (added detail for clarity... you are unique in a VERY GOOD way!)

UCLA

Virtually visit UCLA, then share something you learned about UCLA or attending a university.  The more you explore, the more interesting the day will be. Blog about a major, a factoid, or dorm life! You can go to the virtual tour page where there are videos.

I already know I am looking forward to visiting the sculpture garden with the class. Last year everyone copied the pose of an abstract sculpture. This year........

Watching the virtual tour video.....there are soooo many outstanding experiences and opportunities available for students at UCLA.

Have fun.

UCLA Here we come!

factoid: In your first four (or whatever) years of college before you graduate, you are an UNDERGRADUATE.

After you've watched the two videos...What did you learn about college life? or UCLA college life?

OUTTA THE BOX: Combining Music and Art

Follow the directions below, adn they will take you to the SF Symphony's Match the Music play around with putting together Great Art and snippets of Great Music. You can "match" and create interesting combinations (juxtapositions).  There are NO NO NO right or wrong answers.  Have Fun.

Here are the directions:
1) go to Keeping Score: Tchaikovsky: A musical diary
............................. (if that doesn't work, use this and scroll down to Mr T)
2)Find Primal Moves; click on Enter
3) Click on Match the Music. voila! You've found it!

The video of the SF Symphony conductor, MT Thomas, is pretty interesting as he drives around SF and talks about "music" we hear throughout our day.

Should you decide to comment below, please consider telling us the names of matches you made by giving music title and picture title.  OR write whatever you want...but try to go beyond "this is cool." Maybe tell us why it is cool.

OUTTA THE BOX: Listen to some cello

Gotta comment?  Here are some ideas.....
Avoid one word comments....they don't really tell us anything.

1)Is this how you expect to see/hear a cello used? what is "different" about how it is used for "Final Countdown"?  Do you like it?  Why or why not?

2) If you were a film maker what could this be a sound track for?  write a quick narrative..............be sure to tell us the setting.

3) You would like to make a different comment...........

OUTSIDE THE BOX: Make a Soundtrack

Listen to this, at least once without watching. Think about it like background music, or a soundtrack, for a movie or video game. Then.....write a short description of the scene you imagine ... o, and the scene is related, somehow, to the ancient civ you are studying.
