Shakespearean Three Pigs

I really enjoy picturing little pigs saying "Harken!" or "Haste."  "Unbar this entrance with haste, we beseech thee!" or "Nay it shall not be..."
Phrases like: An exhale of gale proportions, domicile number 2, ...and the alliteration about the 2nd pig.
The language makes the fairy tale sound much more important. A lot of it sounds like a Monty Python movie.

Another part that made me laugh? the American pig, with a far more limited vocab...but a stronger house.

WOW! Moments as I read.............

Reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, my first WOW moment was when I realized that the little boy who "narrates" his story has met .... The Fury (the Fuhrer, HITLER). another WOW moment is when he "talks" about where his family has moved to...Out With (Auschwitz! a notorious concentration camp)

Share your WOW moments.....moments that make you think, learn a new fact, when you have a BIG question.....................

What is your favorite word and why?

Road Trip!
It means driving for hours listening to music or podcasts, only fun responsibilities, no talking, and a fun place, or places, to visit.

School year road trips to SanFrancisco usually mean a museum, or a walking tour AND yummy food.  If the day starts at Tartine Bakery with a morning bun?  PERFECTION!

Was Mesopotamia a Civilization?

Today we learned about the elements of civilizations.  Does Mesopotamia have proof of these elements?
Follow this link, Mesopotamia is also called the Near East, to learn about Mesopotamia.

OPTIONAL: Advance preparation for Tuesday's in class task:
Create your own graphic organizer on which you identify each element and give "proof." You may draw, write, or use a combination of both. Please DO NOT cut and paste.

For example, the picture above "proves" the element of a writing system. Of course, you will want to write down the name of the writing system.

Jadis in London

                           Buckingham Palace                                               Houses of Parliment

Do you think, if you were a Londoner, you would ignore Jadis as she came through the streets?  What do you think you might say to your walking companions?

MN Digory and His Uncle "Essential Gestures"

Besides Dilpreet's vocals and having fun, what made this ESSENTIAL GESTURE  a "meaningful" activity? In other words, how might it help you in having a deeper or better understanding of the novel?  What did you think of the experience, and why?  Just a couple of sentences is a fine response.  This is HOMEWORK.

Random Thoughts

I can't wait to get home to read my current novel, Cranford.  I am really looking forward to BackToSchool Night. I am frightened about how much I enjoy writing large numbers in expanded form using exponents.

By the way, if you wanted to check the current population you can go to this site.

If you want to know about books that are acceptable for Enrichment Reading, you can go to Ullner's Ulltimate Reading LList
